The mix of East Culture and West Aesthetic

Designed & Styled by: Kae Khoo    ·    Photography by Patrick Lau

Taking a mindful approach to designing an interior space can help to establish a calming home environment that takes away stress and promote purpose, happiness and serenity. As we focus on creating a space that helps our clients feels good, fengshui plays an important role in this project to ensure the family achieve harmony and balance in a way that will bring peace and prosperity.

The initial brief was to ensure that we follow the fengshui rules, have enough storage and incorporate our clients’ love for Western farmhouse interiors. This space is designed for 4; a very friendly couple - Vanessa and Nelson, and their 2 bubbly sons.

To create a more spacious living space and an alfresco dining experience, the dining table was intentionally placed in the balcony. It also serves as a private separate work space should a work from home call is required.

Having the farmhouse theme in mind, the kids’ room was interesting to create. The fengshui requirement was to have two colours in each of the children’s room on each wall. For instance, the play room requires 1 wall to have yellow be painted in a yellow tone and the opposite wall yellow and grey tone. We creatively played with mustard yellow to keep the room vibrant and added grey pokka dots decals to keep up with the boys energy.

For the master bedroom, we added different lightings for different moods. We planned in warm and daylight to set different moods. We mainly used warm lights for a cosy bedtime and the white lights are intentionally placed for study and reading purpose at the study table and hanging light.

We also kept the master and common bathrooms design differentiated. A casual farmhouse theme for the common bathroom and a modern classy farmhouse vibe for the master bathroom. The common bathroom design has more of a masculine touch representing Nelson who loves black finishes.

As for the master bathroom, it was designed with gold touches representing a feminine reflection of Vanessa.
