This home was created for two sisters whose personalities shine through in every detail. Initially, the brief called for a neutral mid-century interior accented with green touches. But as conversations unfolded, their shared love for vintage pieces emerged, evolving the design narrative. Observing their joy in accessorising with colour inspired a warm, soul-soothing palette that truly reflects their individuality.

At the heart of the home sits a signature terrazzo island — a bold yet elegant statement carrying autumnal hues of terracotta, emerald green, and light flax. Its gem-like colours anchor the entire palette, marrying the sisters’ love for vintage character with a modern, vibrant aesthetic. More than a functional element, it becomes the home’s centerpiece: a gathering place for conversation, meals, and moments that celebrate personality and connection.

A thoughtful intervention was the addition of a fluted glass panel at the entryway. Facing directly towards a neighbouring unit’s living room, this design choice allows natural light to flow into the study area while maintaining privacy, balancing openness and intimacy.

One of the greatest design challenges arose when the original bedroom walls were removed, revealing a low beam that disrupted spatial flow. Rather than conceal it, the beam was transformed into a feature, painted a deep, calming blue that reframes its presence as a striking accent.

Everyday functionality was also carefully considered. In the kitchen-laundry area, a built-in ironing board neatly folds out from the cabinetry — a space-saving solution that integrates seamlessly into the sisters’ daily routines without compromising the home’s clean aesthetic. Complementing this is a vertical storage system beside the oven, designed with adjustable slim compartments for baking trays and kitchen essentials. Thoughtful touches like these elevate everyday tasks, proving that practicality and elegance can coexist effortlessly.

Upon furnishing and styling the house, we intentionally sourced pieces that not only complement the space but highlight the soulful yet playful features that perfectly reflect the sisters’ personalities. Each bedroom was tailored to individual preferences: one sister requested a darker, cocoon-like palette for a private retreat, while the other preferred a brighter, English-inspired bedroom to complement their grandmother’s heirloom dresser.

The result is a home that balances warmth and vibrancy, heritage and modernity. Vintage objects find harmony with a fresh palette, while subtle bursts of colour echo the sisters’ playful spirit. More than a residence, it tells a story of discovery — uncovering hidden preferences, embracing character, and transforming challenges into defining features.
