A Refined Home With Rooms Of Fun
Designed & Styled by: Kae Khoo · Photography by Patrick Lau

When first met with the Armstrong family, Mike, Grace and their 2 children, they showed me around their previous home to get a sense of what adore and what is important to them. Their previous home had lovely art pieces and furniture, each representing a story of their lives.

Grace has a taste for Japanese styled organization and elegant coastal themed homes while Mike loves to spend his free time relaxing listening to his personal vinyl record collection.

In addition, the Armstrong family loves spending their time together engaging in fun and creative activities at home. This emphasises the importance of creating an environment with free play and space for them.
By understanding what they love and hold as important, we went about with the design intention of creating fun, beautiful and meaningful little moments within each space of the house. With the requirement of keeping the layout changes minimal, we added playful touches to various corners of the home to enliven the space.
As guests enter their home, they will be greeted with a welcoming entryway and a stairway gallery of family photos carrying precious moments close to family’s heart.

Their love for hosting inspired us to create an open and spacious layout in the living and dining room for them to hold gatherings. As the wet kitchen is considerably small, we designed open shelving to widen up the space and mindfully planned the kitchen storage to ensure ample space for the kitchenware.

Level 2 is where the children rest, learn and play. We themed the playroom – “Adventure Room” where we built a rock climbing wall, installed playful window treatments to keep the kids safe and added cute door knobs to elevate the “fun” in the room.

We also chose a cloud blue sky wallpaper for Benny on the wall of the bed to inculcate calmness suited for bedtime.

On the other hand, Meimei’s room was decorated with a soothing sand coloured floral wallpaper. We also placed a clothing rack so that she can use it to select her outfit.

To allow Mike to feel close to home, we installed little Moose hanger hooks in the toilets that will remind him of Canada.

With the limited space on level 3, we added shelving and hooks to display their collections of books and caps. A little reading nook was also created for the couple as a reading corner. A workout zone with wooden Stahl bars and yoga mats baskets was also created for Mike and Grace to workout daily.
