Little Dreams Come True

Designed & Styled by: Kae Khoo    ·    Photography by Patrick Lau

We had the opportunity to work with Jean & Jordan, a loving family with 2 very cheerful girls. Pink is the girls’ favourite colour and they love dressing up as princesses. Jean works part time so that she is able to spend more time and pay full attention to her girls. When asked about their working arrangement, working from home is the default. In addition, they require many storage options with their kids.

Their initial request is a timeless, bright and airy pastel coloured themed home as their new place does not have much sunlight coming through. With the girls’ favourite colour being pink, Jordan prefers to add a touch of blue and neutrals to balance the colour of the entire space.

With these requirements, we knocked down the walls of the old kitchen to open up the space, allowing more light to come through. Colours have always been an important play in designing mindful spaces. We want our clients to inculcate positive feelings and vibes at the comfort of their home. Hence, we have used a mix of bright neutral colours throughout the space to keep the space light, cheerful and bright. The main living and dining area is designed with lots of storage with wide floor spaces for the kids to run around.

Curves is another key feature in mindful design. Other than the curved island, we had also opted for furniture with round edges and soft, sumptuous cushioning. We also picked out arts with trees, silhouette and shadows to inculcate feelings of calmness at home.

The kids’ playroom is designed based on the the personalities of the girls, yet ensuring there is ample space for their growth and development. We placed a desk in the middle of the room. Surrounding the desk, we built kitchens play zones, reading zones, books & toys zone, wardrobe and the art zone.

As for the kids bedroom, we put up pictures of their favourite Disney princess together with a beautiful chest of drawers. Opposite their bed, we strategically styled a butterfly wall for a dreamy bedtime view.

The Master bedroom was initially planned to have a walk-in wardrobe and dresser but due to the lighting of the room, we changed the layout to a key headboard feature with cabinets at both sides to ensure ample lighting and enough wardrobe spaces. We played with natural materials, soft fabrics and a mix of neutral and warm colour tones to give the room a little personality.

Moving on to the study room, we have also strategically placed the study desk in front of the window for natural lighting and a better view! We also used splashes of green to create a soothing work environment.
